The government has sanctioned Irish Water to commence the charging for domestic public water supplies from July 2014.

This will involve a fixed annual charge along with metered usage. An annual charge of approx €460 is envisaged, however a new measure to also charge households extra for the amount of people living in a house has also been sanctioned, this will again particularly penalise households with children.
